Death of a YouTuber: Christian Merck Grey Edition

Hardly anyone was surprised that Raffy Tulfo was caught again in an absurd situation between two vloggers who are emotionally and mentally conflicted.

The debacle between Ms. Namindang and Mr. Grey is both a tragedy and redemption.

On October 12, Caffey Namindang, a.k.a. ‘Makaganda,’ the girlfriend of vlogger Christian Merck Grey, detailed how she endured the pain of being Mr. Grey’s partner. With a monthly salary of at least PhP500,000, Ms. Namindang revealed that she was only receiving PhP5,000-PhP10,000. Such revelation would be both mesmerizing and questionable. If real love was existing between the two, why was their financial arrangement manifest deep distrust amongst each other?

On top of this revelation, Ms. Namindang disclosed that all their videos were ‘scripted.’ Regular watchers of their channel whose minds are open and critical can discern that the disclosure serves as a confirmation to their intuition.

The debacle between Ms. Namindang and Mr. Grey is both a tragedy and redemption. It is a tragedy in the sense that their lives are, somehow, forever associated with this. And because it is the internet that gave them the platform towards stardom, their story will live through a generation. It is redemption in the sense that their faux relationship will now be disbanded, thanks to the realizations brought up by Ms. Namindang’s appearance on Mr. Tulfo’s show. The viewers will be partly detoxified, partly relieved. They now know that at least one channel they’re subscribing to is just a pain in the neck.

“To reach the peak of fame, some vloggers subscribe to dubiousness that often crosses the line of sensitivity. And because controversies garner widespread attention, their videos receive massive amount of views that translates to massive amount of cash,” I wrote in April. It seems that this quote has never been truer.

  1. Yesterday, while I was at work, my sister stole
my apple ipad and tested to see if it can survive a thirty foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation. My iPad is now destroyed and she has 83 views.
I know this is completely off topic but I had to share it with
    someone!
