Her Acting Was Good

Sometimes, we need to do things so that we can regain the trust of others. But if those things will lead us more to their downfall, they should have never lived on this Earth.

What was the stupidest thing you did for love? Ask that to a group of people and their response would be classified – in the ‘sin’ degree – as ‘venial.’ Their actions were senseless and catastrophic, but they were shallow. Romance evaporates a person’s sense of understanding and replaces it with blind loyalty that slowly destructs his/her capacity to make decisions especially in times of chaos.

Let me share to you a story my friend told me that will prove the abovementioned perception. For the characters’ protection, I will conceal their identity and give no clue about their background or environment.

This story happened long time ago. I was informed of this story during my adolescent years. If I’m not mistaken, the incident is already ten or eleven years old.

The details are partly sensitive. It contains partly sexual content that you may find disturbing. But I opted to remain those details, despite its obscenity, so that the essence of the story remains intact. Please, bear with me.

The story goes something like this:

Jennifer – not her real name – has a romantic affair with Jason – not his real name – for about one year. Jennifer was younger than Jason, which was favorable for the former because she would be guided and beloved by a man older than her. They were, denyingly, materialistic.

The two were curious, adventurous, and careless. As part of their adventures, they would kiss each other intensely. They would cuddle each other tightly in front of anyone and everyone. They would have sex with each other frequently – sometimes vaginal, sometimes oral.

Then, the blazing fire of romance started to turn down. The ambiguities were clearly manifested. The trust broke into pieces. The once strong relationship turned into fragile. One day, they decided to call it quits.

And that’s where the story began.

A desperate Jennifer showed up one day, telling the biggest humiliation of her life: she’s conceiving a child. She told that to her friend. She told that to her ex’s friends. And each of those friends told that to their circles of friends. Until the secret turned into sources of gossips, and, sadly yet obviously, a laughingstock. Jennifer was shocked that the secret bubbled, which was ridiculous.

Four months in, and her mother and father figures had already received a partial word about Jennifer’s nightmares. The biggest bomb exploded. She had a miscarriage. When we learned about it, we weren’t surprised. The carelessness of her actions – running, performing, playing – led to the greatest disaster of her life. Some pitied her. Some ignored her.

It wasn’t about a week later when an H-Bomb exploded in front of our faces: none of the occurrences were true. We would have cursed as many as “The Wolf of Wall Street” dropped. Through a secret investigation, it was revealed that the ultrasound shown was not hers, but of someone else’s. There were two purposes why she did it: to scare the sh*t out of Jason, and to try to win him back. The barbarity of her actions led most of us clueless. It broke our respect, trust and dignity to her. The revelations were truly appalling. Her deceitfulness was overt and extreme. Her acting was so good.

Sometimes, we need to do things so that we can regain the trust of others. But if those things will lead us more to their downfall, they should have never lived on this Earth.
